She has years of experience caring for a large variety of animals and is currently back in school pursuing her Vet Tech degree. • Emily K - Pharmacy / Veterinary Asst

Although she wasn’t born there, Emily is originally from Safety Harbor, Florida (just outside of Tampa). Living there gave her a lot of appreciation for wildlife and the ocean (and the heat!). She also lived in Newtown, Connecticut for the second half of growing up. As corny as it sounds, she owes 99% of her desire to help advocate for animals because of Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter. She started watching him when she was about 7 years old and wanted to be a Wildlife Veterinarian and then a Zookeeper and then a Conservationist. She didn’t buy into the image as much as she did the underlying message. She went to the University of Connecticut and graduated in 2013 with a BA in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Most of her experience has been with marine life, more specifically sea turtles. She's done two internships at Mote Marine Lab in Sarasota doing marine animal rehab and sea turtle nesting conservation. She also worked over at Loggerhead Marine Life Center in Juno Beach doing sea turtle nesting conservation, and the Everglades helping track and capture invasive species. She thinks the best way she can put what she wants to do in life is to advocate for the well-being of animals in any way she can, whether it’s through rehab, research, veterinary care, you name it. Outside of work, she loves to do anything water related (boating, kayaking, snorkeling, etc), working on DIY projects, going on adventures with her pup, Tucker (and sometimes her cat, Chupa), and hiking. Oh! And napping :)
